MOIA & GOPIO

 MOIA (Ministry of Overseas Indians)

The establishment of the Ministry of Overseas Indians (MOIA) in 2004 is a landmark development in the Government’s efforts to bring the overseas Indian in the mainstream of India as well as identifying and connecting them.
Last few years has seen enormous interest among the Indian Diaspora in India. MOIA’s efforts have been laudable in creating this connectivity between the Diaspora and India.

Thanks to these efforts the overseas Indians are being exposed to India’s developmental needs. Many of them have started to look beyond the metropolitan cities to work with local communities.

Considering the vast reservoir of expertise available within the Diaspora it is necessary that more interfaces are created between them and the people of India, particularly at the level of the Rural Youth .

The rural youth in India is better educated now and increasingly seeking to connect with the outside world to broaden his horizons and explore opportunities for education employment and entrepreneurship.

The proposed lecture series in one of the India’s premier rural universities is an endeavour to create awareness among the rural youth about the potential of cooperation and collaboration with the Diaspora for India’s development particularly in rural areas.

GOPIO (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin)

The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) is international network of people of Indian origin (PIO) representing 22 million people of Indian origin living outside India.

GOPIO was founded at the First Global Convention of People of Indian Origin in New York in 1989. India
Associations worldwide have been doing a great job in providing community service to our communities and to project a good image of India and the countries they live in.

The initial thrust of GOPIO was fighting human rights violation of people of Indian origin. Although this has been improved in the last one decade, human rights violations continue to be a major issue for PIOs living outside India. GOPIO has now set its priorities in pooling our resources, both financial and professional, for the benefit of PIOs, the countries they come from and India.
